Johnny Appleseed Visits Winside Elementary

Johnny Appleseed (a.k.a.) Winside sophomore Keith Mundil stopped at Winside Elementary on his way across the U.S.  Also known as John Chapman, this frontier man shared his life story with the students about planting apple trees.  He also handed out Gala apples which he had picked up at the Deck and Slahn Orchard.

Winside Marine Visits

Former Winside Public School graduate United States Marine Brian Todd Greunke visited his Alma-mater on September 25th. With all students gathered around the flagpole, Elementary Principal Mrs. Sarah Remm introduced the special visitor.  This exceptional Marine shared with the students the importance of setting goals and working hard to reach each goal.  He impressed the young audience with his story of having completed his life long dream of becoming a Marine.  The entire Winside Elementary witnessed the raising of the U.S. flag by Marine Greunke with the assistance of Jake and Tyler Paulsen. The Winside Band under the direction of Mrs. Kathy Hansen played the Star Spangled Banner. Winside Elementary students and staff warmly thank U.S. Marine Brian Greunke for taking the time to visit and for his service to our Country.  

S'more Learning

The Winside First Graders began their new 2013-2014 school year with s'more learning!  They made solar s'mores and wrote about what they would like to learn s'more about this year.

The first graders took graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallow creme and placed the ingredients on the dashboard and back window of Ms. Loetscher's car.  Talk about solar heat! They learned the term solar and what it means.

The solar heat quickly melted the chocolate! (Just looking at this picture makes my mouth water!)
