Thanks to all the parents, grandparents, extended families, Winside Superintendent/Elementary Principal Mr. Jeff Messersmith, Elementary Computer Specialist Mrs. Barb Kollath, all the staff at Winside, and the First Graders for making this another GREAT year!
This summer I will be spending 20 days at the Northeast Research and Extension Center in Concord working with scientists from the University of Lincoln to develop curriculum around the soybean. One of the perks of this adventure is $500.00 worth of materials for the classroom. Materials include a video flip camera, plant stand, grow lights, books, and classroom experiments. As I told the First Graders, the really great part of this is that their second grade teacher Mrs. Stubbs is also part of this project so they will directly benefit from the project next year! I also have a week's worth of miscellaneous workshops including reading, writing, technology, and science. Before I know it, fall (my favorite season) will be here!
Please encourage your special First Grader to continue reading, practice those math facts, and if you have Internet access, use the Education City website. If you lose the password or site address, just give me a call. I took that info home with me. :)
Have an enjoyable, refreshing, and relaxing summer!
Your partner in education,
Ms. Loetscher

Miss Laura Heise, our outstanding student teacher, who helped put the tour together.
Winside Superintendent/Elementary Principal Mr. Jeff Messersmith who continues to encourage and support learning experiences such as the D.C. tour.
High school students Tina Nelson, Tarrin Quinn, and Elysia Wagoner for all their much appreciated help serving refreshments and cleaning up afterward.
Our parents who continue to support education and the best for their children.
Last but certainly not least the energetic and enthusiastic First Graders who have made the year a huge success!

Thank you, Miss Heise!

Gold-Medal Winner Talks to Winside Students
Gold-Medal winner Curt Tomasevicz spoke to Winside K-12 students about the need to set goals and work hard to attain those goals. Tomasevicz is a Shelby, Nebraska native who won a gold medal in the four-man bobsled during the 2010 Winter Olympics. It's the first time in 62 years that Americans have won the four-man bobsled competition. He is also a former Husker and also competed in the two-man bobsled competition.
