We hope you had a very Happy Valentine's Day! Below you will see the hand created Valentine's bag of each student. Our student teacher Miss Heise made mouse cupcakes with the students that incorporated math concepts including measurement and fractions. Miss Heise introduced them to the measurement of an inch. Putting that learning into action the students measured six one-inch pieces of licorice for the whiskers and one three-inch piece of licorice for the tail. They then counted the edible pieces added to the frosted cupcake. There were twelve pieces. Questions posed to the class: What fraction of the pieces are ears? (2/12) What fraction of the pieces are whiskers? (6/12) etc.
This not only makes learning fun and delicious but also relevant!
